PAST PROGRAMS - 2015

There was a special working session held in December of 2015 for those members who could meet at the Demmer Library to work on the obituary project.  Members worked on scanning obituaries from the News-Review, resizing those scans and extracting the information to enter into a spreadsheet to create the tables for the webpage.  That information was added and hyperlinks created so that the scanned .jpegs and .html pages could be uploaded for the public to use.  Much work was accomplished in a few hours.

The Three Lakes School District Fab Lab was the site of the April 27, 2015, meeting.  Dr. Steve Yahr gave a presentation detailing the 1922 cross country honeymoon auto tour to visit Yellowstone National Park by his grandparents.  Using the discovery of photos and a diary kept by his grandmother, Dr. Yahr stressed the changes and constants between those times and today.  After the presentation, Dr. Yahr gave a tour of the Fab Lab and explained the futuristic jobs done by the new technology located in the lab.

Thanks to our wonderful chairpersons, Donna Mather, Nancy and Bob Bailey we had a great time with wonderful food, excellent discussions regarding family memories and genealogies.

THREE LAKES SECOND ANNUAL HERITAGE FEST was held Saturday June 29 and Sunday June 30, 2013 at the Three Lakes Athletic Field. We participated and offered free “lookup and get started” help for those interested in their heritage through the use of computer available data. Our booth was well attended and appreciated by many.

Irene Farkas,Donna Mather and Lisa Bacon completed another winter 2012 project and added another new heritage swingboard to the Three Lakes Historical Society Museum displays. Be sure to check these swingboards out! - they are truly awesome! Great work ladies. Thank you.

The Find A Grave Committee completed their project in the Fall and set up guidelines for updating/or correcting information as it becomes available.

Future Project 2014: A committee has been formed to index and scan obituaries for the Three Lakes area. More information to follow.

PAST PROGRAMS - 2010

Our annual ethnic Christmas Party in December 2010 was especially enjoyed due to the efforts of our Chairpersons Pat Frank and Ann Bruckmoser. Great job ladies! Thank you so much for all the extra finishing touches
Our CEMETERY WALK 2010 was held on July 10th and along with good weather, it was another successful event. A new Cemetery Walk book was printed in October including all three walks i.e. 2006, 2008 and 2010 and was available for a donation of $10. You may still be able to obtain one by contacting us through this website, or at the Three Lakes Chamber of Commerce. Our walks are so popular there is a great demand for these books and previous editions are all gone.

ALLEN COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY PROGRAM JULY 26, 2010 WITH ADAM BARRONE, RESEARCH CENTER/PERSI ACTING SUPERVISOR - OUR SPEAKER.
SUBJECT: "Allen County Public Library Genealogy Center as a Research Destination and a Repository for the Preservation of our Heritage".

Anyone choosing to preserve their own family history gave him a copy of their family book/history in CD form, pdf form or perhaps printed form. Allen County reprinted the material, bound it, applied a cover and kept one book safely on their reference shelves and provided the donor with a bound copy for themselves. Everyone who participated was very pleased with their bound material. What a generous offer and great opportunity!

We supported the Demmer Library in promoting National Library Week April 13-17th, 2010 with an Ellis Island Display. Not only was the display impressive, but the descriptive movie accompanying thedisplay was very moving. The library has purchased this cd and it is available for loan as well as other books and materials. Check with librarian.

Past Activities - 2010

Our October meeting was one of our very popular "Library Lockin" meetings which truly is a "Members Helping Members" meeting with access to all of the library's resources for the evening. Our next lockin will be Saturday Jan. 23rd. 2010 from 2 to 5 PM. We have changed from a night schedule to a day time to accommodate those members who do not wish to drive at night. We don't want any of our members to become a part of the deer herd "history".

Past Activities - 2009
Our annual Ethnic Christmas party/meeting was Monday, December 14th, 2009, at 12:30PM at the Reiter Center. Members are encouraged to bring a spouse or friend, a dish to pass and a family tradition to share with the group. We all enjoy hearing about the old traditions of our varied ancestors.

Past Activities - 2008

Our second “IF TOMBSTONES COULD TALK” Cemetery Walk was held on July 12, 2008 and was another success - with the weather also cooperating. The program actually ran an hour and a half longer than intended due to the crowds who visited us. Attendance exceeded the 250 plus who attended in 2006.

OTHER ACTIVITIES; May 12 and 13, 2008 our group took their third annual research trip to the WISCONSIN HISTORICAL SOCIETY, in Madison. Since classes were still in session the library was open til 9 P.M. which gave us additional time to pursue our ancestors. All who have attended these group research trips consider this to be so very helpful and resourceful and are anxious to return again next Spring. Our next annual research trip was May 12 to 14th, 2009, again to that wonderful resource the WISCONSIN HISTORICAL SOCIETY LIBRARY, in Madison. Everyone attending was successful in obtaining new information on their families and recommend this experience to all members.

"Remembering the Past - Celebrating the Future"

On Saturday morning, July 8th, 2006, in conjunction with the Town of Three Lakes Celebration of its founding in 1881, the Three Lakes Genealogical Society presented a “Cemetery Walk” program designed to provide information on the history and personal life stories of the early settlers and their descendants.

Many of our current residents are descendants of these early pioneers were present to provide details on their early day to day lives. We actually presented 27 re-enactments provided by a fantastic group of descendants and other helpful “actors”.

Awesome, wonderful, terrific, interesting, “must do again” were just a few of the comments heard over and over again as over 250 people attended our “IF TOMBSTONES COULD TALK” CEMETERY WALK. The tour was vidoetaped so many more interesting pictures and family histories will be forthcoming, but for the moment, these are a few of the initial photos taken of our reenactors during this walk. The DVD is available at the library for viewing at the library, but currently may not be taken out.
