The Three Lakes Genealogical Society offers a Beginning Genealogy Class for Genealogy “newbies.” In addition, for those of you with some genealogical knowledge, the class also serves as an opportunity to fine-tune those skills.

The inaugural Beginning Genealogy Class began in January of 2022. The winter session meets seven times and includes topics such as organization, citations, familysearch.org, ancestry.com, censuses, findagrave.com, newspapers, and narratives. The final assignment of the winter session is to write a narrative about an ancestor; the narrative will be presented to the TLGS at the May meeting.

The members of the class now conduct their own research and find new and interesting information about their ancestors. When we say interesting – Oh, my! Along the way, there also were many laughs! The class plans to reconvene in the fall for about four more sessions.

The TLGS Beginning Genealogy Class will be offered again in January of 2023 if there is enough interest. Contact Nancy any time at familyhistory@demmerlibrary.org for more information. You don’t need to wait until later in the year.
