- Phyllis Kalmbach Baer Phyllis Kalmbach Baer, 83, of Pittsboro, N.C., died from injuries sustained in a car accident on Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2010, at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford, Ill. Born, Aug. 22, 1927, in Grand Rapids, Mich., she was a graduate of Hobart and William Smith College in Geneva, N.Y. Class of 1949. She married her loving husband, John Balfour Baer on Aug. 1, 1953, in Grand Rapids, Mich. Phyllis and John lived in Long Beach, Calif., Cleveland, Ohio, Sandy Springs, Ga. and more than 30 years in Mountain Lakes, N.J., before moving to North Carolina in June 2005. In the summer months they vacationed at their home in Three Lakes, Wis. with family and friends. She was a member of St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church in Pittsboro, N.C. and a lifelong member of Three Lakes Rod and Gun Club in Wisconsin. Survivors include her husband, John of North Carolina; sons, John (Kimbra) of Yorkville, Ill. and William (Gail) of Salmon, Idaho; daughter, Alison B. Arter of Chapel Hill, N.C.; grandchildren, Erin Briot, Elizabeth O. Baer and Kathryn C. Baer; sister_in_law, Anne Baer and her children, Linda A. (Dave Kjelstrom) Baer and Scott F. (Colleen) Baer; and John's cousin, the Right Rev. Richard W. Rowland of New Orleans, La. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
