  Dewey attended Beloit schools and Notre Dame University. He was a plant engineer for Fairbanks Morse and CO. He was a corporator, trustee and menber of the board of the Beloit Savings Bank. Also a Past Grand Knight, Past Faithful Knight and member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of American Legion Post 48, Elks Club, Sierra Club, American Society of Safety Engineers, He served in WWI in the Navy and received the Ralston Purina Hero Medal in 1915. In 1900, Dewey was 2 years old and living with his parents at 716 Park Avenue In 1920, Joseph D is living with his parents In 1930, Dewey is an engineer and living with his wife and father-in-law, Albert S (age 55 and Secretary for the Beaver Lodge) at 716 Park Avenue
