- Clifford O. Brown, age 83, died Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at St. Mary's Hospital with his family by his side. Clifford was born April 28, 1924 to Albert and Grace (Buskirk) Brown in Rhinelander.
Clifford joined the Marines at age sixteen and served in World War II at Iwo Jima. Through his service, he was decorated with the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Following his duty in the Marines, he joined the Army.
He married the former Shirley A. Oberklaner in 1951. He later married Leona Moes on March 19, 1972. He worked for the paper mill for many years from which he retired.
Clifford enjoyed the outdoors where he could be found hunting, fishing, and gardening. He also enjoyed playing bingo and working word searches. He was a member of the VFW Honor Guard, the American Legion, and the "Leathernecks of the North". Clifford had a rare blood type and donated often to help people in need and saved many lives because of his donation.
Clifford is survived by his wife, Leona, of Rhinelander, his daughter, Lauren (Craig) Warmuth of Florence, WI., his step-children; Dean (Sandy) Moes of Rhinelander, Karen Brown of Janesville, WI., Yvonne (Len) Carlson of Janesville, WI., and Susan (Thomas) Kinnaird of Heiskell, TN., a brother, Donald (Linda) Brown of Rhinelander, a sister, Elizabeth Grace Drivas, a sister-in-law, Dougie Brown of Rhinelander, his grandchildren; Lucas (Cathy) Towne, Drake Warmuth, Aaron, Todd, and Kasey Moes, Bernadette Stoehr, Steve Moes, Shannon and Corey (Dee) Brown, Jeremy (Kris) and Adam (Tammy) Carlson, Ondine (Paul) Wallinger, Amanda (Jay) Childs, Tommy II (Jennifer) Kinnaird, Zachary and Rebecca Kinnaird, many great-grandchildren, and extended family. Clifford was proceed in death by his wife, Shirley, his brothers; Gaylord and Oliver, a sister, Mary Skinner, a daughter, Tonia Jean Brown, a son, Jeffrey Clifford Brown and two step sons; Robert and Gary Moes.
Funeral Services will be Friday, April 25, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. at the Hildebrand~Russ Funeral Home with Deacon Ron Bosi officiating. Visitation will be at 10:00 A.M. until the time of services at the funeral home on Friday morning. Interment will follow in Northland Memorial Park Cemetery with Military Honors. A memorial has been established in his name.
