They also had two daughters. The next move was to Oak Park Michigan in 1953 and then in Dec 1954 to Pacific Palisades in California. Back to Oak Park in 1955 and then to Hales Corners, Wisconsin in Dec 1956. Betty became a Girl Scout leader in 1955 and has been involved ever since. She laid the Trail of the Parks in the early 70s for Girl Scouts in Milwaukee county and helped with moving the Ben Humt cabin to it's present location in Hales Corners. Since 1975 she has visited Kenya, the Galapagos Islands, Churchill, Alaska, Antarctica, Belize, England Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Peru, Chile, Guatemala, Montserrat, Germany , Nova Scotia, Texas, Israel, Egypt, and a few others. She fell just short (970) of getting 1000 birds on her life list. As a volunteer in Hales Corners she --- Worked with the HCVC – Hales Corners Health Volunteers Worked with the Historical Society Wehr nature Center HCLC Attic ladies Altar Guild Girl Scout – leader, Neighborhood chairman, trainer, boardmember, and received the Thanks badge. 643 | Ione Louise Stanzil, age 91, was called home to be with the Lord on September 1, 2019. Ione was born on Wheeler Island in Three Lakes on October 2, 1927 to Herbert and Nettie Louise Otto. Her family eventually moved to Onalaska, WI where Ione was raised as eldest daughter among 8 siblings. When their father died, shortly before Ione’s senior year in high school, Ione returned to Three Lakes to be near maternal grandparents. She found employment as a laundress at the Rod and Gun Club. Upon graduation from Three Lakes High School, Ione then served as a Secretary at Fort McCoy. She married Arthur Stanzil in 1947 after his discharge from the Army. Industrious and intelligent, Ione was invited to serve as a bookkeeper for Kroening Engineering in Milwaukee. For many years she also assisted her husband in that capacity when he became a local Standard Oil Agent. Ione served as a Sunday School Superintendent for Grace Lutheran Church in Three Lakes. She was a deeply devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Ione is survived by her children; Lynn (Al) Goodrich and Hugh (Sue) Stanzil, grandchildren; Maria (Gregg Wilmes), Hugh (Jennifer) and Erin Goodrich and Matthew (Courtney) Stanzil. Also surviving are great-grandchildren; Kolton, Andrew, Elizabeth, Seamus and Orin. Ione is further survived by sisters; Jane Macdonald, Norma Vernon, Vada Martinez and Frieda Beltran, brother; Herbert Otto and by many nieces and nephews and cherished friend; Wilma Helmick. Along with her parents, Ione was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, brothers; Edward and Elwin Otto and sister; Evelyn Marcotte. 644 | Irma L. Pitlik, age 87, of Eagle River, formerly of Sugar Camp, died on Friday, Nov. 15, 2013. She was born Feb. 1, 1926, in Eagle River, the daughter of John and Anna (Wiebe) Spiess. Irma was raised on a farm and attended schools in Eagle River. On Oct. 11, 1945 she was married to Joseph Pitlik in Sugar Camp. It was there that she enjoyed being a homemaker and raising her children. Irma enjoyed gardening, crafts and bird watching, particularly hummingbirds and she truly loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Irma is survived by her daughters, JoRene (Jim Vales) Youngman of Eagle River, Cathy (Frank) Sullivan of Sugar Camp, Jenelle (Jerry) Ninko of Conover and Denise (Jeff) Johnson of Appleton; brother, Walter (Shirley) Spiess of Eagle River; sister, Doris (Steve) Silber of Eagle River; sister-in-law, Margaret Spiess; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. 646 | Jack Dwain Bacon, 84, of Sturgeon Bay, passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at his home. He was born April 15, 1936 in Three Lakes, WI, the son of William Hartley and Florice Agnes (Price) Bacon. Jack went to Sturgeon Bay High School before enlisting in the United States Navy where he served from 1954 to 1958 with time spent in Norfolk, VA, and the Mediterranean Sea at the end of the Korean War. On January 24, 1958, he married Patricia Ann Wilson at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sturgeon Bay. Jack worked at American Motors Corporation before moving back to Door County with Pat and family in 1968 when they bought an apple and cherry orchard business. He worked for Bay Shipbuilding in Sturgeon Bay prior to his employment with Northland Steel, retiring in 2000. Jack enjoyed collecting and working on his cars, fishing, and was a huge Packer Fan! Family includes his wife, Patricia; two daughters, Lisa Bacon and Carla (Patrick) De Bauche, both of Sturgeon Bay; three grandchildren, Samantha Irons, Nicolas Bochek, and Justin Schuyler; three brothers, Norman (Lila) Bacon of North Carolina, Doug Bacon of Racine, and Leland (Inge) Bacon of Sturgeon Bay; and two sisters, Janet Robinson and Elaine Johnson, both of Sturgeon Bay. 649 | Joan L. Devereaux, age 69, died Saturday, February 2, 2008 at home surrounded by her loving family and in the care of Ministry Hospice. Joan was born August 20, 1938 to Benson and Florence (Bilicki) Smerlinski in Milwaukee. She married Thomas Devereaux on September 28, 1957 in Okauchee, WI. Joan was employed 23 years at Devereaux Plumbing and Heating. Her involvement and dedication to our community was very noteworthy. She served as a Rhinelander Ambassador, the chapter chairman of the local Red Cross for two years, and Rhinelander Chamber of Commerce President during 19821983. In 1993, she was named Sugar Camp Outstanding Citizen of the year. She was instrumental in the Sugar Camp Youth Club, and for eight years she assisted with the St. Jude's Bikeathon. At age 62, she went back to school and received her CNA degree from Nicolet Area Technical College. Joan's faith was also very important to her. She was a lifemember of St. Kunegunda Catholic Church where she served as a CCD teacher, parish cookbook editor, coordinator for two consecutive parish directories, chairperson for the 100th Anniversary Celebration of St. Kunegunda Parish, and a member of the "Just Us" music ministry. She also worked with her husband for the many efforts of the Sugar Camp Lions Club. Joan was very proud of her Polish Heritage as well, but most of all she loved her family and the music they made together. Joan is survived by her husband, Tom; their children; Denise (Mark) Martalock, Sun Prairie, WI. , Joe (Nola) Devereaux, Milwaukee, Lisa (Curt) Krouze, Rhinelander, and Charles (Cynthia) Devereaux, Sugar Camp, eleven grandchildren; Nelson, Dedra, and Max, Lauren, Derek, Anna, and Adrian, Cydney, Isabella, and Charley, and Jessica, a brother, Jack (Kathy) Merlin, Nashville, TN., her loving dog, Polly, as well as much extended family and close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters; Grace Jefferies, Geri Reich, and her twin sister, Jean Andrews. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 6, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Kunegunda of Poland Catholic Church in Sugar Camp with Father William Horath officiating. Inurnment will be in St. Kunegunda's Catholic Cemetery in the spring. 650 | John "Johnny" Pitlik, age 69, of Sugar Camp, died on Friday, Nov. 29, 2013. He was born Dec. 12, 1943 in Rhinelander, the son of Howard and Emeline (Eddy) Pitlik. He was raised in Sugar Camp and graduated from Three Lakes High School in 1962. Johnny spent most of his early years traveling throughout the United States while playing in various bands. After moving back to the Sugar Camp area he was married on Feb. 14, 1978 to Vicki Bonack in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. He was employed with Pitlik and Wick until his retirement in 1997. He then continued his passion for music and played in a variety of bands along with his son, Duddy, and son-in-law, Steve. Johnny was a longtime member and former Zone Chairman of Ducks Unlimited. His favorite enjoyment was spending time with his grandchildren and his hobbies included golfing, hunting, fishing and "getting a load of wood." He is survived by his wife Vicki of Sugar Camp; sons, Todd (Agnes) of Long Beach, Calif., Chris (Hiedi) of Sugar Camp, Jonathon (Katie) of Sugar Camp and Justin "Duddy" of Sugar Camp; daughters, Marci Spears of Sugar Camp, Mary Pitlik of Greenville and Amy Griffin of Rhinelander; brother, Tony (Helen) of Rhinelander; 12 grandchildren, one nephew and two nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Ellen; daughters, Jodi and Jeanie; son-in-law, Steve Spears; and four nieces.
