406 Emma C. Kunda, age 96, of Sugar Camp, died Friday, April 8, 2011 at home surrounded by her loving family. 

She was born March 17, 1915 in Antler, North Dakota, the daughter of John and Emma (Petersen) Dahlin. She married Ernest Kunda Sr. on February 12, 1938. 

Emma was a teacher at Cassian School, she also taught CCD, she farmed in Sugar Camp and was also a substitute teacher. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Emma was a member of the Altar Society.

Emma is survived by her children which included two sets of twins: Connie (Jerome) Maney; Deanna (Tom) O'Malley of AZ; John (Peggy) Kunda; Martin (Diana) Kunda; Kenneth Kunda; Ernest Jr. (Jill) Kunda of FL; Emma (Joe) Clure; Kathleen Scholwin (Mike Rychlock); and Michael Kunda; 13 grandchildren Teri, Jerry, Lori, Jayne, Tom, Rick, Emma, Tony, Kris, John, Joe, Tim, Kelly and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Kathryn, and grandson Ryan Kunda, her husband Ernest Sr. (1980), and siblings Ida Duffy-Nystrom, Einer Dahlin and Gustav Dahlin.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, April 15, 2011 at St Kunegunda of Poland Catholic Church at 11:00 A.M. with Father William Horath & Deacon Al Goodrich officiating. Burial will follow at the St. Kunegunda Cemetery.

407 Emmy Pigeon, age 93, of Portage, died on Sunday, February 7, 2016 at Tivoli in Portage, surrounded by love from her family both near and far. She lived a long and wonderful life. Emmy was born on January 31, 1923 in Kronewetter, Marathon Co., Wisconsin, to Frank and Amelia (Dallman) Lorbetske (Lorbiecki). She married Joseph Pigeon October 4, 1947 at St. James Catholic Church in Wausau, WI, with a reception at the Rib Mt. Ski Chalet. Emmy and Joe lived in Weston, WI most of their 68 years of marriage. They recently moved to an apartment in Portage to be near their three daughters.Emmy had a strong bond with her large family, spending many happy hours and days in Weston, Sugar Camp, and Milwaukee. She developed an interest in her family history, which included a trip to Poland. She spent time researching her ancestry by writing to distant cousins and researching records from churches, courthouses and cemeteries. She wrote a book, "In a New Country" for her family, so they would know and appreciate their heritage.She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Carl, Anton, Raymond, and Harry Lorbetske; her sisters, Bertha DeLonay, Clara Nehring, Lucille DeLonay, Tillie Philipp, Rose Stefonek, Pauline Kunda, Earlyne Connolly, and two infant sisters, Mary and Ann.She is survived by her loving husband, Joseph Pigeon; four children, Cathy Brunt (John) of Portage, Joseph M. Pigeon (Theresa) of Schofield, Amy Bedessem (Jon) and Pam Jenkins (Bob), both of Portage; seven grandchildren, Jonathon Brunt (Sandra), Autumn Pease (Joe), Brianna (Erickson) and Amanda Bedessem, Eric, Ryan, and Brent Jenkins; five great-grandchildren, Emerson, Emerald, and Lane Pease, Tristan and Sophia Brunt. Emmy was excited to hear the news from Brianna that there would be another great-grandchild in August. She is also survived by her loving sister, Evelyn Wendorf, and her special and dear twin sister Elly Eckert, both of Hartford, WI; her godchildren, Vern Stefonek, Greg Eckert, Gail Maney and Suzanne Lawrence; and also her wonderful nieces and nephews.Mass of Christian Burial and visitation will be at St. Therese Catholic Church, Rothschild, WI, at a date yet to be determined. Inurnment will be private at The Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Kronewetter.

409 Esther E. Paszak, age 80, of Rhinelander, died on Tuesday, September 4, 2007 at Taylor Park Nursing Home. She was born on March 20, 1927 in Tomahawk, Wisconsin to Ernest and Evelyn (Winchell) Jordan.

She attended school in Rhinelander. She was a cook at the Rhinelander Café and Pub and the Rathskeller. She enjoyed cooking, knitting, doll collecting, and needlepoint. She will be remembered as a very loving person.

Esther is survived by her daughters, Susan (Russell) Smith and Karen Larson of Rhinelander; her brother, Jacob (Janice) Miller, of Rhinelander; her sisters, Ramona Rasmussen, Marlene Brooks, Laura (Frank) Kramer, all of Rhinelander, and Edith (Leon) Kuskanick of Eagle River; her eight grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Raymond, and her brother, Elmer Miller.

Funeral services for Esther will be held on Saturday, September 8, 2007 at 10:00 A.M. at Hildebrand-Russ Funeral Home with Pastor Craig Brooks officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home on Saturday at 9:00 A.M. Hildebrand-Russ Funeral Home, 715-365-4343, is assisting the family with arrangements.

410 Eugene “Gene” Step, age 99, a life long resident of Three Lakes passed away on December 16th. He was born December 2nd, 1919 to his parents Alex and Mary Stepezyski.

Gene was a World War II Veteran who served in the US Army Air Corps. He was a member of the Three Lakes American Legion 431, VFW and 40 and 8. Gene also served the community as a member of the Three Lakes Fire Department for 43 years. He was very active in Three Lakes and also a member of the Historical Society. Gene played in the Rhinelander Northwoods Community Band as well as other bands and groups. He was a long time insurance agent and very fond of golfing and horizontal engineering.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Irene, Helen and Florence; brothers: Edmund and Leo. He is survived by his niece Mary (Mitch) Flannery of Three Lakes; nephew Michael (Bonnie) Scanlon of Three Lakes and many other nieces and nephews.

443 Florice Agnes Bacon, 94, of Sturgeon Bay, passed away Tuesday, September 6, 2005 at Dorchester Health & Rehabilitation Center.

She was born December 7, 1909 in Eagle River, the daughter of the late Fred and Agnes (Gander) Price. She was employed with Amity Leather and with Milwaukee Shoe until her retirement. Florice married William Hartley Bacon in Eagle River. He preceded her in death in 1990. After his death she moved to Egg Harbor to live with her son. Florice was a member of Sturgeon Bay United Methodist Church. She enjoyed bowling, gardening, taking numerous pictures, and loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her eight children, Lee (Inge) Bacon of Sturgeon Bay, Phyllis (Lee) Moe of Sturgeon Bay, Douglas (Mary) of Racine, Jack (Pat) of Kangaroo Lake, Janet Robinson of California, Elaine Johnson of Sturgeon Bay, Richard of Woodstock, New York and Norman (Lila) of Woodstock, New York; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and one sister, Lucy Lewis of Eagle River.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three daughters, Virginia, Joyce, Darlene; grandson, Steven Bacon; sister, Margie; and three brothers, Clarence, Frank, and Larry.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 10, 2005 at 5:30 p.m. at Huehns Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay with Rev. Mel Henrichs officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 5:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her memory to the United Methodist Church in Sturgeon Bay, or the charity of your choice.
