    From Geoff Mitchell

Andrew was my paternal Grandfather. In my teenage years I had the responsibility to mow his lawns and cut his hedges. He was the one who taught me how to cut hedges. All done with hand shears of course. He told me whenever he started cutting his hedges my Father and his two brothers would all disappear because they knew they would have to pick up all the hedge clippings. When my Grandmother was alive we would visit them every second Sunday afternoon. We would watch the Sunday afternoon movie on TV and have cakes for afternoon tea. Often the Sunday afternoon movie was followed by soccer which never interested me. I would often go to their front room and play on the piano they had. I remember my Grandfather would give us 20 cents pocket money when we went home. After my Grandmother died he would come for Sunday lunch every second Sunday. My Father and I would then take him to visit my Grandmother's grave followed by a car ride before taking him home. Often our drive would end up overlooking the ocean. My Father had my Grandfather's World War 1 uniform. When the Department of Internal Affairs was looking for a World War 1 uniform my Father donated it. I believe it went to a Museum somewhere in France.I remember my Grandfather as kind man.He passed away on the day on got my drivers license.

Andrew married Pepler, Mabel Alice on 11 May 1922 in Dunedin, South Island, New Zealand.
