Beth gave the bank statement to Bob Bailey who is temporary treasurer, and she gave the Waupaca Genealogical Society newsletter to Nancy 1 who will make sure it gets to the Local History Room. COMMITTEE REPORTS: ? We Are Three Lakes: Marie and April explained the project for the benefit of our guest. The Three Lakes Historical Society has agreed to host We Are Three Lakes on their website since the Demmer and TLGS cannot. April explained that Dan McGissik volunteered to meld the We Are Three Lakes site with the historical society website pro bono. During the summer, the historical society decided to redesign their website (Dan is also doing this) which is why the project has not been able to move forward yet. April is meeting with the historical society and with Dan this week to find out where things are at and what needs to be done to begin making progress with the project. April will contact Nancy 1 and Marie regarding these two conversations. Marie will send April example pages of We Are Three Lakes by Thurs., Sept. 30, so April can show the historical society and Dan what things might look like on the website. ? Obituary Project: Nancy 1 handed out 3 formats for obituaries to be utilized for this project. The members present voted 8-0 to use the Vilas County News Review (VCNR) online format. Nancy 1 and Irene are looking for a letter from the VCNR which gave permission for TLGS to use the obituaries for this project. There is a question as to whether new permission needs to be obtained since we would be using the online format rather than scanning the print versions from the newspaper. Les offered a couple of other options that may be available, but will require more information/research. One was simply to have the obituary link on our website take a person directly to the VCNR online obituary. The downside to this would be the newspaper may not keep the obits online forever. Another option might be to save the actual obituaries to a computer. OLD BUSINESS: ? Ask Your Local Genealogist: In September Marie helped 2 people and a tag-a-long. One of those people attended our meeting today. Bob and Nancy 1 did not have anyone show up the day they were available. Marie will volunteer to be available on Oct. 7, Bob will volunteer on Oct. 14, and Nancy 1 will volunteer for Oct. 21. They will be available each Thursday listed from 2:00 P.M. - 4:00 P.M. in the Local History Room at the Demmer Library. ? Book Club: The Demmer Library has purchased the Morton Farrier Series written by Nathan Dylan Goodwin. The books are also available on Amazon. The book club will not start until after the first of the year. The book the club will begin with has changed. We will now start with Hiding the Past as it is the first book in the series that was purchased. More details will follow about the book club as they become available. ? Nancy 1 shared information about the Informed Consent Agreement and the Designation of Beneficiary forms that were emailed to members last week. Please ask if you would like more information about them. NEW BUSINESS: ? Bank Closing in Three Lakes: TLGS currently uses BMO. We will remain with them and do business through the Eagle River location. ? Golden Rules of Genealogy: Thank you to Irene for sharing this resource. It was emailed to members last week. ? October Meeting: Members need to be aware that the following will be discussed and/or voted upon at the Oct. 25 meeting: 1. Election of Vice-President and Treasurer 2. TLGS Christmas Party: This is scheduled for Monday, Dec. 6 at noon. It will take place downstairs at the Demmer Library. Mari Lynn and Beth will organize this event. More details to follow! BRICK WALLS/SUCCESSES : One person joined Ancestry. Besides finding items they found helpful, they also felt good about being able to share this resource with someone else new to genealogy. Another commented that they have more fun helping others with genealogy rather than working on their own. A suggestion was made to start with yourself if you are new to researching genealogy. Program: DNA Kindergarten Part 4: Identifying Shared Matches was presented. The meeting was adjourned at 2:58 P.M. The next meeting is Monday, October 25, 2021.
