We Are Three Lakes: April sent an email to Dan McKissick to find out the status of his work on the website. She is waiting to hear back from him. The Three Lakes Historical Society will host the website. GENEALOGY TIP: Was your family surname changed at Ellis Island? The answer to this is a resounding, ÒNo.Ó Ellis Island officials never changed a familyÕs surname. A familyÕs surname came from the ship manifest that originated in the country the ship sailed from to get to the United States. Names were never scratched out and new, Anglicized names written in. If name changes did take place, it was most likely before they got on the ship or after they were processed through Ellis Island. BRICK WALLS/SUCCESSES : Our visitor shared why she is interested in genealogy and where she is at with information and research. Today's program was ÒDNA Kindergarten Part 1: Intro and DNA ScienceÓ a video presented by Bonnie Belza; Brigham Young University. The meeting was adjourned around 2:20. The next meeting is June 28, 2021 in the Maple Room at the Demmer Library OR on BlueJeans. The topic will be ÒDNA Kindergarten Part 2: EthnicityÓ by Bonnie Belza.
