The first books being considered are by Nathan Dylan Goodwin. The book club would run Sept. - May. ? It takes place on July 16. There is no deadline for registration. Information was emailed to TLGS members. ? TLGS Board Meeting: Nancy 1 summarized what was discussed at their luncheon meeting June 1, 2021. Field Trip possibilities in 2022 - Madison to the WI Historical Society; Ashland to the WI Historical Society Museum there. Noreen has been in contact with Ashland and there is interest in having a virtual presentation first about what that museum has to offer. It has been tradition to purchase a book related to genealogy when one of our members passes away. Nancy 2 has been looking into possibilities in memory of Charlene Roberts. The book Family Tree Cemetery Field Guide is one idea. Choosing a book from the list provided in todayÕs program handouts is another idea. Possible programs for next year: genealogy field trips, the one postponed this year to be given by MarieÕs friend, Bob B. explaining the process he uses for research; Nancy B. sharing artifacts and/or researching female ancestors. Discussed the possibility of putting together a survey for our members A workbook called Who Gets GrandmaÕs Yellow Pie Plate is available online. This resource Ņhelps families address common decision making obstacles when passing on personal possessions.Ó Members should consider possible changes to the TLGS Bylaws. Two possibilities: Decide if we should have a calendar year (Jan.-Dec. or Nov. - Oct.); Allow officers to serve two 2-year terms if they are willing. Allen County Public Library has free online webinars TLGS Facebook page isnÕt being used much. What is its future? Nancy 2 will be framing photos of TLGS founders and displaying them in the Local History Room at the Demmer Library. ? Someone asked what the history was behind the TLGS meeting at 1:00 in the afternoon. In the past we used to meet in the evenings. It was changed because people didnÕt enjoy driving at night during the winter months. Do we want to change our meeting time? ? (Unrelated to genealogy) Nancy 1 announced that certain kinds of plastic bags (grocery, ice, cereal, & ZipLoc) are being collected at MelÕs Trading Post in Rhinelander. GENEALOGY TIP: June Genealogy Tip from Les Anderson Obituaries are wonderful sources of basic information about your target person. However, there are often mistakes or omissions in the obit that give false or misleading information. Use the obit as the basis for a deeper search that collects information that supports or refutes what the obit presents as facts. My half-brother and sister are not mentioned in the biological motherÕs obit, only a third child by a second husband, and step-children from the third. The obit was written by the fourth husband, so he might not have had the entire story. My wifeÕs great-grandmotherÕs obit lists a daughter as a sister, so anyone not knowing the family would be very confused. Bottom line is that you need to be cautious with the information presented in obituaries. BRICK WALLS/SUCCESSES: ? Nancy 1 shared a cross-stitch sampler from 1817; It contains a deliberate mistake because only God is perfect. ? Nancy 2 talked about her family purchasing memorial bricks for a VeteranÕs Memorial. ? The Guild of One-Name Studies is researching the surname LEWIS. If anyone has that surname in their family tree or is interested in helping with the research please contact lewis@one-name.org Program: DNA Kindergarten Part 2: Ethnicity, a video presented by Boddie Belza, Brigham Young University OUR Potluck PICNIC is July 26, 2021. It will be held at Cy Williams Park, under the shelter down by the beach house for Maple Lake Beach.
