She will try to arrange a meeting in October with April, Erica, Kyle, Marie, and herself. ? Digital Presentation at Crandon: Nancy 1 attended. One take away was the importance of digitizing information and putting it in a secure place in case of fire or other emergency. TLGS should consider doing this with their information. There will be future online learning opportunities about this topic which we will pass along to members as the information becomes available. ? Picnic: Attendees felt this was a big success. Great food, even better conversation and company! Nancy 1 shared her amazing brownie recipe. Thanks to all who organized and participated!!!! NEW BUSINESS: ? Thanks to Nancy 2 for doing the Summer Newsletter ? Looking ahead to 2022: We will likely take a step away from video presentations. Ideas include in-person presentations and field trips to other Historical Society archives/museums. ? Elections: Just a heads up - in October we will need to elect a new Vice-President and Treasurer. Please consider serving in one of these capacities. If you are interested and/or would like to nominate someone, please let a board member know. ? Noreen shared information about the following resources: WSGS (Wisconsin Genealogical Society) Newsletter is available at the Demmer Library. Since TLGS sent their dues late, our information in the newsletter is not current. The newsletter includes a couple of interesting articles as well as a list of genealogical societies throughout the state. You might want to check it out!! WSGS is offering a 2021 Fall Seminar. Marie just received notification that it will be virtual. A pre-conference workshop will be held Friday, Oct. 8. Lori Bressler will be speaking. Her presentation is titled, ÒItÕs Not All Online!Ó The regular seminar schedule will take place on Saturday, Oct. 9. For more information check out the newsletter or visit their website wsgs.org TLGS is a member of WSGS, but Noreen wasnÕt sure how that factored into the fees involved with attending the seminar. Another resource available at the Demmer Library is the current edition of the magazine Internet Genealogy. Noreen sent board members information about possible grant opportunities. She wondered if they could be helpful with the We Are Three Lakes project. ? MarieÕs guild group is working on the surname LEWIS. If anyone has that name in their family tree she would appreciate hearing from you. GENEALOGY TIPS: July: (From Nancy 1) It is important to keep track of your sources from where you get your information, and to be consistent in how you write those sources. Two good sources for this are Evidence Explained: Citing History Sources from Artifacts to Cyberspace by Elizabeth Shown Mills (available at Demmer Library) and Guide to Genealogical Writing by Penelope L. Stratton and Henry B. Hoff (available on Interlibrary loan). August: (From Nancy 1) When looking for your people, start with the census. You might have to try different spellings of the names and be creative in other ways. BRICK WALLS/SUCCESSES: None were shared as we needed time for the video. PROGRAM: DNA Kindergarten Part 3: Using Your DNA presented by Bonnie Belza, Brigham Young University. The meeting was adjourned at 3:00. The next meeting is September 27, 2021. The program will be Kindergarten DNA Part 4. This is the last video of the series.
