Three Lakes Genealogical Society June 25, 2018 Members: Maureen Brand, Roger Blocks, Barbie Blocks, Debby Selman, Joyce Mogytych, Irene Farkas, Les Anderson, Carol Patterson, Charlene Roberts, Nancy Brewster, Marie Byatt Guest: Dean Miller President Debby Selman called the meeting to order. The minutes as read online were approved by all. Nancy Brewster making the motion and seconded by Roger Blocks.. Treasurer Joyce reported. OLD BUSINESS Nancy Brewster reported that the members who traveled to the Historical Society in Madison found things valuable to them. Open House Chairwoman of the Open House, Nancy Brewster announced it will be July 30 from 10 am Ð 2 pm at the Reiter Center. Please let Nancy know if you will attend, and that you will bring a laptop to assist whoever joins us, a snack, and/or a beverage. Walter Sell from the Wausau Family History Center will be a guest speaker beginning around 11 am. Irene Farkas has made flyers to be distributed around town. Let her or Nancy know if you can help. NEW BUSINESS Oral History Project Katie Kirby of the Historical Society would like to interview long time residents of Three Lakes who will talk about what it was like to live in Three Lakes years back. She will write a grant to obtain money for the project. Members present voted that our society will be a collaborator and help out with the Oral History Project Catena. A Catena is a connected series of related things. The Demmer Library began this event this winter. TLGS members are being asked to help with a future Catena involving the cemetery. Members brainstormed on how this would evolve. A motion by Marie Byatt was made to agree to help the library after knowing more details and the actual date. Roger seconded this motion. Nancy Brewster informed the group that boxes of school class photos has been located. The questions is how to preserve and archive them. Roger Blocks suggested Al Russow as a source. The photos will be housed at the Historical Society. Les Anderson told us that Rootsweb is down, and that we may want to select a different web page provider. There are various price ranges from free to $30 a year. He will research sites available. ***July 13 from 11 am Ð 1 pm there will be a DAR Genealogy Workshop at the Rhinelander Public Library.
