Three Lakes Genealogical Society July 24, 2017 Members present: Maureen Brand, Noreen Rossa, Joyce Mogytych, Nancy Brewster, Marie Byatt, Colleen Thompson, Sue Henderson, Carol Patterson, Charlene Roberts, Debby Selman, Nancy Bailey, Irene Farkas, Les Anderson. Guest: Arleen Faith, Carol Williams The meeting was called to order by President Debby Selman at 1:03 p.m. There were no additions or corrections to the June 2017 minutes. Treasurers Report: Presented by Nancy Bailey on behalf of Robert Bailey, who was unable to be present due to an injury. Note: The date of the Treasurers Report was changed to reflect Ò2017Ó not Ò2016Ó by the secretary. Old Business: Nancy Brewster reported that the book ordered in honor of Bob Killick was ordered but has not yet arrived. Maureen Brand read an e-mail from Bob KillickÕs son-in-law stating that they decided to hold on to BobÕs genealogy work. He said ÒWe will do this as a family projectÓ and that nothing would be thrown away. He thanked the Three Lakes Genealogical Society for their support. New Business: President Debby Selman indicated that the library has approved the date of Saturday, September 23, 2017 for our next Open House. This is the Saturday before our normal September meeting which would be September 25th. Charlene Roberts mentioned that we should indicate that we are handicap accessible. New Business continued: Nancy Brewster mentioned that there is a program at the Rhinelander Public Library on how to write your family history. It is free to the public. There is also a program featuring Jerry Aps which is a ticketed event, but also free. Tickets may be obtained at the Rhinelander library. Sue Henderson asked the question; how do you get DNA results into a family tree? A discussion ensued. Marie Byatt said she needed to contact Ancestry and ask them to add this DNA. Nancy Brewster mentioned that sibling matches are not necessarily the same. We may discuss this next month. Charlene Roberts suggested that we contact the Iron River Genealogical Society for a presentation about Find A Grave by the ÒCemetery LadyÓ. We may pursue this further. Debby Selman briefly mentioned a discussion on the ÒRants and RavesÓ; a discussion group about Find A Grave. A motion was made to adjourn the meeting, then seconded.
