Three Lakes Genealogical Society Minutes – 19 May 2014 Members Present: Les Anderson, Nancy and Bob Bailey, Roger Blocks, Nancy Brewster, Irene Farkas, Sue Henderson, Mary Hitchcock, Robert E. Killick, Donna Mather, Charlene Roberts, Noreen Rossa, Debby Selman, and Colleen Thompson Co-President Mary Hitchcock called the meeting to order at 1:00 p.m. Treasurer Nancy Brewster presented the Treasurer’s Report. The report was accepted unanimously by the members. Minutes of the 27 April 2012 meeting were distributed. Roger Blocks moved the minutes be accepted, Noreen Rossa seconded the motion, and the membership voted to approve the minutes as printed. Old Business: - possibly the 13th-17th or 20th-24th. There are many books on last name studies at the library. Debby Selman is organizing the trip. - The members agreed to make all the obituary information (including a copy of the obituary) free to those seeking the information. The purpose of the project is to provide a service, and not to earn income. Bob Bailey moved, and Debby Selman seconded: “The obituary project as it is being completed now – which includes the obituaries - be saved on the Three Lakes Genealogical Society Website.” The motion passed unanimously. Irene Farkas heads this committee. - Les Anderson discussed the website. The members need to determine what the website should and should not do, and also what it should look like. He still is investigating possibilities for the domain. Payments to the hosting company should be in the name of the organization to preclude any future legal problems. New Business: - Roger Blocks has a lemonade stand that needs a new home. - Heritage Fest is in its third year. The dates are July 11 + 12 (Friday and Saturday). Possible volunteers are Les Anderson, Nancy Bailey, Roger Blocks, Nancy Brewster, and Debby Selman. More volunteers would be appreciated. - “Live History Day” will be July 26. It is presented by the Three Lakes Historical Society. - Carol Williams is presenting “Where There is a Will, There is a Way” at the June meeting. The membership voted to give her a $50 honorarium. - Charlene Roberts will be president at the June meeting. Maureen Brand will be the secretary. Brick Walls and Successes: Colleen Thompson reported on successful Bavarian research using familysearch.org. Other members shared their difficulties and/or successes in their genealogical research. Members offered suggestions and support. The next meeting will be at 1:00 p.m. on June 23 at Demmer Memorial Library. The business meeting was adjourned. Donna Mather made the motion, Nancy Brewster seconded it, and the members approved the motion. The program, “Genealogy and DNA: Should I or Shouldn’t I?” was presented by member Nancy Bailey.
