Old Business - TLGS Website progress Les Anderson explained, if we change our website, we will pay for the domain and usage in some way. He asked why we wanted to leave Rootsweb, because previous history and usage has allowed Google to find our site easily. Since Charlene Roberts has been our webmaster in the past, it was decided that Les and Charlene discuss this and report to our members at the August meeting. TLGS is available for a domain name. - Heritage Fest (July 11 and 12) Not many people came to our site. Members who participated were Nancy Bailey, Roger Blocks, Nancy Brewster, Mary Hitchcock, and June McDuffie. - Living History Encounter Our site was in the Historical Society Building and not many people came. No cemetery booklets were sold. Participating members were Nancy Brewster and Marie Byatt. - Group comments on the June presentation “Where There’s a Will, There is a Way,” presented by Carol Williams. Members agreed the presentation was very good. They also were reminded to search microfilm records from familysearch.org for their counties of interest. - Les Anderson reported the obituary project still doesn’t work correctly, and he suggested a new way for it to work - a hyperlink to the jpeg itself instead of storing the jpeg inside the file. New Business - The members agreed to change the September meeting from Monday, September 22 to Monday, September 29 to accommodate our speaker Paul Wussow. He will discuss preserving pictures and film. - Nominations for President, Vice-President and Treasurer are needed for the 2014/2015 year. Bob Bailey expressed interest in the position of treasurer. - A Publicity Chairperson will be sought. - Future programming: August 25 – “Preparing for a Visit to Allen County Library, Fort Wayne, IN.” Noreen Rossa has attended the library and highly recommended it. She reported it is a huge place with many books on the shelves. There are many city directories and family genealogies. Plan ahead what you wish to accomplish. There also is a photocopy exchange program that copies your family compilations and binds them; the library keeps one book and sends the other book to you. Mary Hitchcock received a letter from Adam J Barrone (from Allen County Library). September 29 – “Preserving your Photos and Film” – Paul Wussow - Nancy Bailey was thanked for her follow-up on last year’s Heritage Fest. - The secretary will keep program handouts in a binder. Program: “Preparing my Family History for my Descendants.” Simple steps in preparing your family history for your family. The presenters were Nancy Bailey, Roger Blocks (paper), Marie Byatt, and Noreen Rossa. A Google search of Allen County Public The meeting was adjourned. For August 25 meeting: Members are asked to spend some time on the Allen County Public Library website (http://acpl.lib.in.us ) to try to find items they would like to research at the library, and where those items would be found. A Google search of Allen County Public Library, Fort Wayne, Indiana might help. Bring one or two things you did (from this site) to help your family history search. Other Discussion: - How to do source citations, source details, footnotes, bibliography. - Where to find records. - Use the familysearch.org “help” pages. - Marie suggested a Family History “Comic Book.” - Oversized documents may be scanned at an architectural firm – a place that makes blueprints. - Please send your 5 favorite websites to Mary Hitchcock at dezz1hitch@yahoo.com. She will organize the results and give them to the members. Respectfully submitted, Nancy Bailey, Secretary
