Three Lakes Genealogical Society Minutes – 24 February 2014 Members Present: Bob and Nancy Bailey, Marge Behling, Roger Block, Maureen Brand, Nancy Brewster, Irene Farkas, Donna Mather, June McDuffie, Debby Selman There were no guests. Vice-President Debby Selman called the meeting to order. The minutes of the 28 October 2013 were approved as published. The 21 February Treasurer’s Report was presented by Treasurer Nancy Brewster and approved. Old Business: - Debby Selman proposed that our organization purchase Fold3 for the library. Nancy Brewster will investigate its availability/cost for the library. - The program for March is TBA. The May meeting will be a discussion of DNA and genealogy. Nancy Bailey suggested we have a picnic in the summer. New Business: - Some members are interested in a “field trip” to Allen County Public Library in Fort Wayne, Indiana. - Roger Block moved, and Marge Behling seconded, the purchase of two SD cards to be used for the obituary project. Bob will purchase the cards. - Debby Selman updated the Three Lakes Cemetery project. - Roger discussed his DNA results. He has completed the autosomal test on ancestry.com. Brick Walls: Nancy Brewster discussed her progress with Jeremiah, and Debby discussed genealogy on her husband’s side. The meeting was adjourned. The Baileys shared: - Three books Map Guide to the U.S. Federal Censuses, 1790-1920 by William Thorndale and William Dollarhide. It is available in the library. Researching Your Colonial New England Ancestors by Patricia Law Hatcher. It is available on amazon.com. Genealogist’s Handbook for New England Research, 5th Edition, edited by Michael J. Leclerc. It is available on amazon.com. - A table for the VuPoint scanner. This enables the VuPoint to be a tabletop scanner. The cost is c $20. - Bob showed the design for the Obituary Project. “Members Helping Members” was the program. Our members researched ancestors for Marge Behling and Donna Mathers.
