Three Lakes Genealogical Society Minutes Ð June 24, 2013 Members Present: Robert & Nancy Bailey, Nancy Brewster, Roger Blocks, Marie Byatt, Irene Farkas, Mary Hitchcock, Sheila Hittman, Robert Killick, Nancy Kimla, Charlene Roberts, Noreen Rossa, Debby Selman, Gail Smith, Carol Stillwell Guests: Dean F. Miller, Jane Oxthow The meeting was called to order by President Mary Hitchcock at 1:05 PM. Minutes of the May 2013 meeting were available for review via email or at todayÕs meeting, and there were no corrections or additions. Debby made a motion to approve the minutes, a second followed. Minutes were approved by all. Nancy Brewster presented the TreasurerÕs Report. The TreasurerÕs Report was accepted as presented. Old Business: 1. Findagrave.com Project - Updating the photos/memorials for the Three Lakes Cemetery. Noreen reported that approximately 3 blocks in the Cemetery need to be completed before the final Excel spreadsheet with current information would be available, and the website update would be complete. The goal is to have the total update complete by the August meeting. Noreen suggested establishment of a standing committee with a term of 2 years or so to add/update the Three Lakes Cemetery listing with new photos/memorials annually. After some discussion Noreen offered to draft some proposed guidelines for the SocietyÕs handling of the website to discuss at the next meeting. Debby said she would be willing to serve on the Committee, and Roger offered to assist with any additional work on the website updates. 2. Heritage Fest(June 29/30) Recap Ð Mary noted that there were ample volunteers to staff the TLGS table at the Festival, and each day between 8-12 people received help with research on their family. The time members donated appeared to be well spent. New Business: 1. Upcoming Genealogy Events included: * July 2 Ð Presque Isle Ð 7-9 PM Topic: Immigrant Letters * July 17 Ð ÒBeginning GenealogyÓ at the Demmer Library 6:30 PM Ð Robert Bailey 2. A handout from Irene was distributed Ð ÒMy Genealogical Will For Preserving My Family HistoryÓ 3. Helpful websites: Genealogybank.com Nespaperarchives.com Ancestry.com Familysearch.org has some new newspaper archives 4. Successes & Brick Walls * Bob Bailey Ð Lot of success with newspaper archives in Rockford IL through Genealogybank.com * Nancy Kimla Ð Found a cousin on Facebook who had an email address that allowed her to connect with a Òlost auntÓ * There was a discussion of the Homestead Act of 1862 and how to find more detailed information * Mary connected with a lead to the Kehoe side of the family that lead her back to Hiles, WI ; and found that her husband had not only 1, but 3 direct descendants in his tree from the Mayflower 5. Motion was made & 2nd to adjourn the meeting. All were in agreement to adjourn. 6.
