Business meeting was adjourned, and remainder of meeting was used to work on details of Cemetery Walk. Mary Hitchcock led the discussion. Cemetery Walk Ð To be held on Saturday, July 10th Mary distributed a Task Assignment sheet she had prepared, and discussed items line by line. One of the main differences in this 3rd Walk is using a shotgun start, asking all visitors to be onsite by 9:45 AM, so the event could begin at 10 AM and groups would be dispatched to each site for their 5 minute presentation, and then have groups switch to the next presenter at the sound of a bell. TLGS members are all asked to check their calendars to see if they are able to sign up to assist in the Cemetery Walk, and get in touch with Mary. Mary is in need of someone to assist with publicity, and if anyone has a costume need, please get your request to Mary by June 5th. Dress rehearsal will be on Friday, July 9th, 4 pm at the cemetery. Genealogy Quips & Quotes A modern mother is explaining to her little girl about pictures in the family photo album. ÒThis is the geneticist with your surrogate mother and hereÕs your sperm donor and your fatherÕs clone. This is me holding you when you were just a frozen embryo. The lady with the very troubled look on her face is your aunt, a genealogist.Ó Anonymous (This article was copied from a website I was browsing, and site does appear on CyndiÕs listÉ.but it is an unusual option for searches or if someone wanted to volunteer.) Research . . . Free for the Asking! Many people love genealogy and family research to the point of wanting to help others not even related to them with theirs; it is a type of madness, I am sure, but if you are sane, you will want to take advantage of it! RAOGK! Sounds like the name of some Japanese monster which was always attacking Tokyo in all those B-monster-movies, but it is an acronym that you should remember. RAOGK stands for Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness, and it is a loose association of fellow genealogists from all over the United States who have volunteered to do some small bit of research for others and all you have to do is . . . just ask for it! The RAOGK website has an easy-to-remember URL at RAOGK.org, and after getting to the home page and reading the rules about RAOGK etiquette, just pick a state, and then look for whatever volunteers there are for the county which interests you. Only ask for information within the bounds of what the RAOGK volunteer has offered to do, and hopefully answers to your questions will flow from there. The Genealogist's Psalm Genealogy is my pastime, I shall not stray; It maketh me to lie down and examine half-buried tombstones. It leadeth me into still Court Houses, it restoreth my ancestral knowledge. It leadeth me in paths of census records and ships' passenger lists for my surname's sake. Author unknown
