A retirement card for Joyce Schmitt (Reiter Center) was passed around for signature. 2. The current roster of 2010-11 officer nominees was reviewed. The roster remains open for nominations or if anyone is interested in volunteering to hold an office. Elections will be held at the September meeting. Newly elected officers will assume office in October. 3. Announcements were made re: Fall genealogical training events: * Northwoods Genealogical Conference Ð Sept. 11 in Woodruff. Cost is $25, must register in advance. * WSGS Fall Seminar-October 16 in Stevens Point. Registration form and more info is on their website. The form was available at the meeting to copy. * Family History Conference Ð October 16 in Wausau at the LDS Family History Center. Free, pre-registration is requested, but not required, More information is available from danoble1@verizon.net * The Wisconsin State Historical Society is offering fall genealogy classes. Charlene circulated a flyer that can be copied if anyone would want more information. 4. TLGS Newsletter Ð While everyone seems to like the newsletter, Charlene needs more contributions to make another issue viable. She has only received information from 2 members. Since our Newsletter is available to researchers via the Allen County Public Library persi system, it would be worthwhile to make a contribution. 5. A flyer about a Nicollet College event, ÒCreating Pathways to Prosperity, was sent around for review. Erica Brewster is involved with sponsoring the event. 6. Critique of the TLGS sponsored CEMETERY WALK, July 11, 2010. Mary Hitchcock led the discussion and the feedback included: * Attendees enjoyed the event from the comments made * Shotgun start seemed to work fairly well, enactors apparently felt it worked well for them * Family with the service in the cemetery that day told Pat Frank that they thought their mother would have enjoyed the cemetery walk, and did not feel there was an conflict. * We did not have the numbers we did in the past- 2006 Ð 200+ attended 2008 Ð 180 attended 2010 - 120-140 attended Suggestions for any Future Cemetery Walk: Big sign in front of Cemetery should be changed to have time state it is at 10:00, not 10-12N, if shotgun start is used again. More time may be needed between bells that signal groups to move to next presenter Donations down Ð Have more donation boxes- perhaps one as they leave to go to parking lot. Wait more than 2 years to do another due to drop in attendance. Start recruiting presenters in fall before a Walk is scheduled. Mary had difficulty in getting enough presenters and volunteer support staff. She felt the entire genealogy group needs to commit to providing physical support to the event if we have it again. She would also welcome someone else taking over the position as coordinator of the Walk. There was a motion to adjourn the business meeting. It was seconded and passed. 7. Program Presented was: How To Do Research at the LDS Site, Select Films and Order From the Demmer Library. --Courtesy of Nancy Brewster. Submitted by: Noreen Rossa
