Minutes of Three Lakes Genealogical Society September 28, 2009 1 PM Members present: Pat Frank, Charlene Roberts, Roger Block, Mary Hitchcock, Robert Killick, Maureen Brand, Frank Meyer, Debby Selman, Ann Bruckmoser, Noreen Rossa, Sandy Thieisen, Marie Byatt, Lori McNamara and Colleen Thompson. Guests: Ollie Littleton, Marlene Prahl, Carol Patterson President Charlene Roberts called the meeting to order. Noreen Rossa read Minutes for the August 24, 2009 meeting and they were approved. Treasurer, Ann Bruckmoser The report was accepted. Old Business: 1. Charlene reviewed the content of the 2 proposed changes in the TLGS Bylaws regarding staggering of terms of officers, and how funds would be coordinated for payment of the LDS billing monthly. She passed copies of the bylaws (changes highlighted in red) out. Members discussed the changes. A motion was made, seconded and then approved to finalize the changes. 2. The audit of the TLGS financial books has been completed with the assistance of Mary Hitchcock and no irregularities were found. 3. Discussion was held regarding a donation to be made in appreciation for use of the Reiter Center in the last year. Frank Meyer made a motion to donate $100 to the Reiter Center. It was seconded and approved. 4. Cemetery Walk will be held on Saturday, July 10, 2010(9:45-12Noon) and the individuals to be featured have been picked by Mary Hitchkock. About 5 of the individuals doing the reenactment have been identified, and Mary is contacting possibilities for the others. Corrine Lester will be Mrs. Johnson. She will let Charlene know what additional help is needed in that area. Mary passed around a sign-up sheet for members agreeing to assist at the event in other roles to be assigned. If any help with costuming is needed, those needs must be identified several months in advance. 5. Charlene reported that two individuals used the one to one assistance available at the library from TLGS members. Carol Patterson, one of the users, mentioned she found the help very beneficial. 6. Charlene asked for input on usefulness of TLGS newsletters. There has been a lapse for several months and she had gotten several inquiries about when the next issue is coming out. Charlene had been the editor and is willing to continue it, but needs help from members in providing tips others might find helpful in their research. Group consensus was that the group would like to continue it and members would make an effort to submit ideas to Charlene regularly. 7. Charlene noted October is Family History Month, and our group will put in an excerpt in the Demmer Library monthly Newsletter. Our next meeting will be a lock-in on Thursday, October 22, 2009 from 5-9PM. ( It will take the place of the October 26th, Monday afternoon meeting.) 8. Discussion was held regarding the change to the IGI (International Genealogical Index)database and the Pedigree files by the LDS. Soon they will be able to be accessed in a merged format. Marie Byatt noted that she has some additional access/extensive knowledge of the LDS system and would be willing to assist TLGS members as needed. 9. Nicollet College sent TLGS an invitation for a presentation this evening on ÓAlaska Far AwayÓ, which is a documentary on people leaving the Midwest (including Vilas County area) that relocated to the Mantanusca Colony in Alaska in 1935 as part of a New Deal program. Notice was passed around. 10. Discussion was held regarding memorials for past members & cards for members who are absent due to illness. 11. Ann Bruckmoser passed around a list of individualsÕ email addresses /phone numbers for updating. She reminded members that annual membership fees are now due 12. Charlene asked members to comment on their Successes and Brick Walls. Generic information included: a. Demmer LibraryÕs ÒBadger LinkÓ allows access to newspaper archives in WI. Check Heritage Quest for other newspaper links. In Illinois Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library has an index for Illinois newspapers, and you can request their films for newspapers on file by Volume & etc. b. Wisconsin Counties are divided into districts and county records older than 1907 or so are archived in Family Resource Centers housed in the State of Wisconsin University system (Green Bay, Parkside in Racine, River Falls, Ashland, Stevens Point, Platteville, Milwaukee) New Business: None Motion was made and seconded to adjourn the meeting.
